We are officially open! We had an amazing turn out for the grand opening event. It was wonderful to see so many different parts of our community come together to share in celebrating the opening of BULK Space Media Lab.
Food was served by Dawat (Farah Sattar) and treats were shared by our friends at Someday Detroit. There was music, there were laughs, and a beautiful glimpse into the future of BULK Space Media Lab.
We have some exciting summer programming lined up. BULK Space wants to help artists get enthusiastic about tech and learn how to utilize it in their work. The Media Lab’s programming will provide educational workshops focusing on technological advancement in the arts, resource sharing, and professional skill-building for artists to expand their practices.
Check out our free summer programs:

MDW Summit Application Date Extended - Due June 30th
https://mdw.art/summit
You can now apply to join us for the MdW Summit from November 18-23, 2024 at Charlotte Street Foundation in Kansas City!
MdW is an evolving coalition of artist-run projects, platforms, and spaces spanning across the Midwest. We’re getting together in Kansas City with over 100 fellow artists and culture bearers who work on artist-run galleries, publications, and other platforms. Join us for a week of connecting, resource-sharing, an exhibition, field trips, and opportunities to learn about alternative models for navigating the Midwest’s cultural landscape.
The MdW Summit is a coalition-building initiative where artists and culture bearers collectively reimagine alternative models for connecting, sharing, and making outside the “art world’s” limits. MdW’s DIY ethos connects hyperlocal art scenes across the Midwest to build lasting coalitions of artist-led action.
Accepted participants receive a $500 travel stipend.
Artists selected for the exhibition by curators Brandon Alvendia and Kimi Kitada will receive a small additional stipend.
If you already follow us, you may have also seen that BULK Space participates in book fairs and small publication runs. BULK Space media lab is equipped with unique printing capabilities–another aspect of the lab that we are excited to share with community members as a medium/technology to explore and experiment with! Keep an eye out for additional workshops about paper-making, zines, and books!
Thanks for reading and make sure to follow us on instagram if you don’t already :)
