Summer Updates from BULK Space !
Dear Friends, Supporters, and BULK Space Community,
As we all continue through July and begin to return from our summer travels, we would like to take the time to recognize and welcome some outstanding individuals into our BULK community. BULK Space is proud to welcome Dr. Jessica D. Moorman for our 2025–2026 Public Scholar-in-Residence!
A fourth-generation Detroiter and Black feminist social scientist, Dr. Moorman is one of the world’s leading voices on singlehood. Through interviews, surveys, and deep community engagement, she examines how Black Americans navigate — and thrive — in a world built around coupledom.
Her work challenges norms, amplifies innovation, and celebrates the strategies Black single folks use to survive and shine.
As an Assistant Professor at Wayne State University and a passionate public scholar, Dr. Moorman brings her research beyond the academy — into podcasts, public talks, and everyday spaces where real life unfolds.
Facts About Dr. Moorman
She is currently writing her first book.
Dr. Moorman has been featured on NPR’s Life Kit & WDET’s Culture Shift.
She is Rooted in Detroit– Resonating everywhere!
Follow along as Dr. Moorman collaborates with BULK to bring research to the people — bold, accessible, and unapologetically Black.
